The recent seminar at Gwadar was the second such event since the present Commander Southern Command took over. Like the previous seminar this too was a well attended and very well organized event. The Chief of Army Staff was there as he was at the earlier seminar. The military’s objective is clear. They want to bring the military and political leadership in Baluchistan on the same page and they want a concerted effort with no distractions to deal with the attempts being made to sow discord, undermine stability and create an exploitable vulnerability in a province that borders Iran and Afghanistan and has a strategically important coastline. There is also the fact that Baluchistan has vast resources of minerals, gas and coal. The seminar brought together a cross section of influential people for an exchange of views and consensus on the way forward.Wednesday 13 April 2016
